How to secure Joomla websites?
Most common problem with open source CMS systems is security. Hackers are very much active nowadays to it's important to know how to prevent hacking on your Joomla website.
No need to panic as Joomla is already a secured CMS but you can still improve security of your Joomla website. Here are the things that you should take care of:
- Change Database prefix from default so that way you can prevent SQL Injections
- Change the Administrator default user name "admin" to something else
- Update your Joomla to latest stable version
- Add Password protection to your Joomla Admin Panel
- Use Search Engine Friendly URLs
- Use the tighten permissions for your all Joomla folders and files. We recommend 555 for all folders and 444 for your files. Most of the hosts allows your Joomla to run properly with these permissions but this may not be the case for all hosting providers
- Make sure, you are using secure hosting
- Uninstall any buggy 3rd party extension and keep all your extensions up-to-date
- Use the .htaccess file and add some more rules to prevent some common exploits and additionally secure your Joomla site
