How to move/transfer Joomla website
One of the most common question from non-technical persons/clients is "How to move or transfer Joomla website from one host to another host OR development server to live server?" If you are panic about moving your Joomla website then let me tell you, there is nothing to worry about. It can seriously be a very easy process. How? Let me guide you step by step:
- Download and Install Akeeba Backup component from www.akeebabackup.com.
- Once you are done with installation, go to Akeeba Backup component at Joomla admin and perform full backup. Full backup will include all site files along with database.
- Once backup process is completed, download the backup zip file to your local computer.
- Now upload this backup zip file onto new hosting via FTP OR File Manager of cPanel whatever you are using.
- After successful upload, extract the zip file on server using cPanel. If you dont have cPanel then you have to extract all files locally and upload them on server using FTP.
- Now you have all files extracted on your new hosting so simply open your website url in browser. for eg. www.mydomain.com
- You will notice that it starts Akeeba Installation process so just follow the steps of Installation and fill up the correct database information, setup admin password and finish all the step.
- Once you are done with all the steps, it will ask you to remove "installation" directory so just do that and you're done with it.
